I am very anger with one of John Galt’s decisions. Dagny calls all the unskilled workers for an emergency meeting when the interlock system breaks down. She calls the unskilled workers to use them as lampposts to manually move the trains. I think this is a smart decision by Dagny because she uses the workers’ body instead of their mind. This is smart because “there is not a single mind left on Taggart Transcontinental” as stated by Dagny on page 870. During her meeting, Dagny sees John Galt. She finally realizes that John Galt works as a railroad laborer for her company. It is ironic that Dagny previously says that there is not a single mind left in her company, when the greatest mind in the world works for her. The reason I am angry with John Galt is that he breaks his oath about seeing Dagny in the outside world. He lets Dagny see him at the meeting and he even goes to see her after. This is a huge mistake by John Galt. Dagny now knows that he works for her. I have a feeling that she will eventually try to go see him even though she says she will not. John Galt tells Dagny that she is the “only one that can lead his enemies to find him”(pg. 880). If this is true then why does Galt see Dagny? The quote by Galt sounds like foreshadowing to me and I am left to wonder what is going to happen to John Galt in the future.
Hank Rearden has finally gave up his fight against the looters and gone to Atlantis. The looters seized his money and attacked his mills. Francisco saved his mills but convinced Hank to leave and come to Mulligan Valley. This is marks the end for the outside world. The only person able to save the economy is Dagny and it seems like she is going to leave soon as well. The departure of Hank Rearden has still left me with many questions. For instance, even though Hank does not care about his family, I still wonder if he is actually going to leave his family with nothing. It seems a bit extreme to me that Hank would let his family starve. I wonder if he will give that gold bar to his family? The other thing that I quite do not understand is why Dagny is still fighting. She sees that Hank Rearden has left and she knows there is no hope left for the outside world. She should leave as soon as she can. There is still the danger of the Thompson Harmonizer weapon. Rand mentions it in chapter three and there has not been a mention of it since. This makes me fear that it will become a big danger later in the novel. I am completely hooked on this book and cannot wait to see what happens next.
