The further I read into Atlas Shrugged, the more I see America. I realize what Rand was trying to do when she made this book now. Rather than just being a story told about a company in a capitalist nation, it is a direct commentary on what America is. Even though she is not talking about the America we live in today, her generalizations can still be easily applied. It gets to the point where I feel like she was able to predict the future. Even if it is not about one company alone, all of her examples are still relevant. When Rearden gets attacked by the science community, I saw a direct parallel between that and the way the government is treating global warming today. They released the same exact paper on it stating "They believe there is a danger" without presenting any hard evidence to suggest a danger. Then when they talk about Rearden's belief that he had to carry the weight of all those who put it on him, I did not see that. What I saw was socialized healthcare. Rather than seeing just Rearden having to carry weight, I saw all of upper class America being taxed up the ass and having all their money going to support those who do not even attempt to find work but sit on their butts all day and just let the welfare flow into their wallets.
Rand has managed to show me that their will always be injustices like these as long as we allow them to happen, and the path the countries (America in the book and in real life) are going, it will only get worse.
