Diana, I agree with you when you say that
humans themselves are the roots of evil. However, when you say that money is
not the root, I find us having different viewpoints. I think money does have to
do with the root of evil. The story suggests that people will do whatever
possible to earn as much money. Even though they might not actually be evil,
society views them as evil and greedy because of their lust for money,
therefore I do think that money is indeed the root of evil. You then go on
making another point: people should that make a lot of money should have the
right to claim it theirs; after all they worked hard for it. You also don’t
believe it is right for society to dislike successful people. On both points I
completely agree with you. I think that if someone worked hard for their money,
that person should be allowed to do whatever he or she wishes to do with it,
and society should have no say. It upsets me to see society hating on Rearden
just because he is extremely rich and more successful. It makes me think that
jealousy is what leads them to act the way they do. Lastly, we both agree on a
third topic. Lillian. We both dislike her greatly because she does absolutely
nothing after finding out that Rearden is having an affair. What kind of wife
would do nothing after finding out that her husband is cheating on her? I was
hoping something really interesting would happen, like a fight or a murder.
Unfortunately, all she does is send Hank flowers.
