Wesley, your first paragraph
actually made me laugh so thank you for that. I agree with you on it
completely. I am going to miss the story, but reading the book every day and
annotating numerous bible like pages….not so much.
All kidding aside, I also admire
Rank for making us readers like the protagonists despite their extremely
selfish nature. She makes us, like you said, want to change the world after
reading the book. It is as if she wants us to realize the government is filled
with corrupt businessmen, who wait to bring down anyone who is too successful. I
find it funny however, how at first I did not like Hank or Dagny. I liked James
actually. But then by the end of the novel my opinions are completely different.
I started to despise James and I became fond of Dagny and Hank. Even though
their relationship is bumpy and she actually ends up falling for John Galt, I like
Hank and Dagny together.
Finally you mentioned how it’s
funny that the novel can be applied to any point in time. I don not know when
it takes place but that’s not important. The government will always have “looters”
as Rand calls them. It is a sad wake up call but one that we must face and understand
as we grow up.
