Meaghan Sylver's reaction to chapters 7-8 pages 154-237

What I am most curious about so far in Atlas Shrugged is John Galt. John Galt represents the unknown, and this drives Dagny crazy. Being that she is a person of numbers and facts I believe that she is conflicted with the idea of not knowing and possibly never figuring out who John Galt is. At first, when people begin to tell her stories of John Galt she becomes relieved that an answer has finally come to her, but she soon realizes that this “fact” is just a rumor and is not true.
Dagny becomes so frustrated with the phrase that she cannot bear to stand it. When it is used in conversations she walks away when it is mentioned, like everything that was spoken of before in the talk no longer matters because that person has ruined their ideas by using the expression “Who is John Galt?”
Whether John Galt was an explorer who founded the fountain of youth or a shipman that discovered Atlantis does not matter to Dagny. She only hopes to find the truth behind the statement, just as she tries to find the truth and meaning behind everything she does not already understand. The relief Dagny would feel in discovering who John Galt truly is would not be able to be captured in words. John Galt represents frustration of the unknown for Dagny, something she tries to conquer whenever she can through her daily battles.
