Hernan Prieto Atlas Reaction #3

It is easy so assume Dagny and Rearden’s similarities; they’re both entrepreneurs they both have one of the most powerful business enterprises in the country and they practically both despise their family’s and life outside the office.  But it is their relationship that interests me more than what they have in common.

Dagny and Hank Rearden at the beginning of the novel had a very well formed relationship, Dagny gives Rearden her blessing with the very expensive yet unreliable Rearden metal, I for one took that action as a sign of trust and friendship in her part, and it was easy to decipher from Rearden’s part that he did too. But as the novel begins to progress I noticed a change in Rearden’s attitude towards Dagny, it was peculiar, suspicious as if he hated her from one day to the other. As the question of why he suddenly hated her was left unanswered, I got to the point in which they both were together alone. In Rearden’s tone everything seemed to be jolly good, but it was when he lies to Dagny about going to New York so he wont take her is when the issue becomes something of importance, I asked myself several questions too, like “Why was he being like this?” and “Why was he changing attitudes towards her so often?” It was questions like this that were slowly answered as I read along, but also it was the negative attitude Rearden had towards Dagny that gave me the drive to continue reading.
