Atlas shrugged p 1-48 Sunday August 18
The author sets up the plot almost like a movie or play, shifting from one scene to the next. He shares the different experiences of different individuals. This made me a little confused at first because I had a lot of names, thoughts and facts to keep track of and organize in my head. Eventually, the author connects the different the characters together and everything becomes a little more evident. The author has given unique personalities to the three protagonists in the book, Eddie Willers, Dagny Rearden, and Hank Rearden. They are all falsely judged in society, and feel unaccepted or misunderstood. Through the use of very descriptive imagery, the author shows that each character is very observant, often deep in thought and feeling. I like this because I feel that the characters are genuine in their insecurities and questioning of their purpose on life; I even feel like I can relate to some of their thoughts and feelings. The author's sentence structure and use of language is very unique. The use of parallelism, for me, makes the read almost choppy. I feel their is no momentum or rhythm as I read. Because of that, I often have a hard time understanding the emotion behind the characters. Luckily, te very descriptive language makes up for that. I think that the individual stories will connect more clearly and a more interesting plot line will develop. As I continue reading, I will begin to learn more about each character's background, helping me understand the reasoning behind their emotions and thoughts.
