Alan Armony Atlas Shrugged pg. 48-154

In this part of Atlas Shrugged I realized that Dagny is the main character in the story—although others believe that it could be James or Hank Rearden. Dagny is, in my mind, the axel that makes the rest of the gears grind throughout the story. She has a very mysterious back round and past; she grew up with these people that she works with now, she had a relationship with Fransisco that somehow ended and now wants to work with him, she no longer has a very good relationship with her brother etc. Dagny is the crucial key to either the success or demise of Taggart Transcontinental. The company is now in her hands since she decided to buy “Rearden metal” from Hank Rearden, which has not been used before and therefore has an extremely high risk of not working correctly. I have my fingers crossed that it goes smoothly because Dagny characteristics (her strong will, her constant necessity to be the best of the best) show that she would not face failure well at all which would have major repercussions not only on Taggart Transcontinental but on her psyche and well-being. I also think that Fransisco has a very interesting past since he had the potential to be a billionaire but in the end went bankrupt and he seems to imply that he did so on purpose—hopefully more of this is revealed as the book continues.
